The referee made showed some good early examples of showing foul detection early. In the 5th minute he correctly awarded a trip and also in the 9th minute he correctly awarded another foul for a handball offence. He also awarded some correct fouls for trips and late challenges through the duration of the game. However he incorrect awarded Chile a Free kick in the 33' minute when no offence had been committed and also failed to awarded a foul or even a talking to in the 50' minute when they were a lot of pulling of shirts. Also in the 78' minute he also missed another foul which incorrectly went un-awarded.


Positioning

The referee was always kept up with play and took some satisfactory positions during set pieces. However he often found himself very close the play meaning that he had to pay a lot of attention in making sure that he did not interfere with play. This often showed in his decisions where some went unnoticed.

Man Management

The referee in the 15' minute waited a few seconds to see whether an advantage could have 
occurred and as it didn't, he brought play back for the original offence and a free kick was awarded. He was also seen to explain decisions when players questioned a decision

All cautions that were awarded in the game were correctly given and the referee also correctly gave a yellow card out for dissent.

The referee kept up with play a lot a showed an excellent amount of fitness throughout the game.

Assitant 1 did not have to get involved in any major decisions and all his decisions where to a good standard. Assistant 2 called a very tight offside and was shown to be just offside by video replays which was an excellent decision.
