*Important errors are potentially game changing incidents which the referee called incorrectly according to the Laws of the Game. Examples of important errors include but are not limited to:
- Failing to dismiss a player in accordance with the LOTG (e.g. Serious Foul Play)
- Incorrectly dismissing a player in accordance with the LOTG.
- Failing to award a penalty kick for a clear foul within the penalty area.
- Incorrectly awarding a penalty kick when no foul was committed in the penalty area.
- Failing to award a goal when the ball crossed the goal line.
- Incorrectly awarding a goal when the ball hadn't crossed the goal line.
- Failing to disallow a goal for offside.
- Incorrectly disallowing a goal for offside.
- Failing to award a goal which had been scored legally.
- Incorrectly awarding a goal which had been scored illegally.
If officials make an important error during a match, the maximum mark they can be awarded by the assessor is 7.9 (SATISFACTORY).
PLEASE NOTE:
The assessor cannot award the officials 'VERY GOOD' (8.5-10.0) or 'EXCELLENT' (9.0-10.0) if the game difficulty was below 'normal'. Likewise, the assessor cannot award 'UNACCEPTABLE' (6.0-6.9) if the match difficulty was above 'normal'. See the 'Review Guidelines' page for details on match difficulty.
