THE REFEREE
Foul Detection
EXCELLENT
Foul detection was generally excellent. He spotted the foul for the pull back on the penalty. However, I just feel he could have avoided all the controversy by giving a bit more evidence of what it was for, as everyone thought it should have been a free kick for handball. However, the penalty was the correct decision.
Positioning
EXCELLENT
Obviously, the penalty and the red card were the too main talking points of the game. For both of these, Mr Brych was in a superb decision to make the correct decision.
Man Management
GOOD
Man management was generally very good. However, as already touched on, he could have saved all the confrontation when the penalty was given and just signaled what it was for quicker and clearer so people knew what it was for.
Card Issuing
EXCELLENT
It was quite obvious that the Argentine's weren't happy with how the game was going and felt that they should of been doing better. And this could be seen in there play with the three yellow cards and the red for them. On another day, with a different referee, there could well have been a couple more cards for what can be described as 'tasty' tackles.
Fitness
EXCELLENT
Fitness is always a key thing when it comes to the world cup in a different country when it is 30 degrees or more. Mr Brych was always up with play which helped to make the correct decisions.
THE ASSISTANT REFEREES
Assistant 1 - VERY GOOD [8.5]
Assistant 2 - GOOD [7.0]
It could be argued that one of Costa Rica's goals were offside and therefore that is why Assistant referee 2 has a lower mark.
OVERALL
EXCELLENT
SCORE
9/10
