THE REFEREE
Foul Detection
EXCELLENT
Comment...
The Referee's Foul Detection was generally excellent, he identified virtually all the foul challenges during and match and penalised these correctly. He was clear and consistent of what he classified as a foul throughout and communicated this to the players well.
Positioning
GOOD
Comment...
The Referee's positioning was generally good. He was up with play at all times and in the majority of occasions adapted positions enabling him to add credibility to his decisions due to his enhanced viewing angle. There were a couple of instances early on when the referee somewhat obstructed the progression of players.
Man Management
EXCELLENT
Comment...
The referee's man-management was of an exceptional standard throughout the match. Following the controversial offside decision (see Assistant Referee's) he effectively managed the high levels of dissent he was subjected to and the zero tolerance by the cautioning of Newcastle #7 for kicking the ball away and Newcastle #4 for dissent moments later diffused the volatile atmosphere of the match temporally. He acted effectively to then stamp down on this when it arose again at other points throughout the match. The referee showed excellent communication with players throughout the match and did the best he could to manage very tough situations. He showed his wealth of experience by the calm manner in which he dealt with players during the course of the ninety minutes.
Card Issuing
EXCELLENT
Comment...
All Cautions issued throughout the match were justified and contributed to the referees strong match control.
Fitness
GOOD
Comment...
The referees fitness was of a good standard.
THE ASSISTANT REFEREES
Assistant 1 - GOOD [8.4]
Assistant 2 - SATISFACTORY [7.8]
Comment...
Assistant #1 had a good game and made several good decisions. However, the Referee and Assistant #2 made a serious match error when disallowing a Newcastle goal incorrectly for offside.
OVERALL
SATISFACTORY (As a result of Serious Match Error)
SCORE
7.9/10
Wow. You're the only person I've heard of that thinks Jones did an excellent job in that game. I'm especialy shocked you think he did a good job with the cards, considering the foul on Nasri seemed like a no-brainer red card. Interesting...
